LIBRARIES

All Lafayette branches now have Wi-Fi

All 10 Lafayette Public Library System branches are now free wireless Internet access hotspots.

Users with their own "802.11b" or "g" equipped laptops, cell phones and PDAs inside the library can now check e-mail or access the Internet. A properly configured card will automatically detect the library's "PublicLibrary" ID when the device is powered on, and no password is needed to connect.

Because library customers are accessing the library's network, they must follow the Electronic Resources Policy, which is posted at http://www.lafayette.lib.la.us/.

While printing is not currently available through the wireless network, users can e-mail a copy of their files to themselves or place the files on a floppy disk or USB drive and use the public library computers to retrieve the files and print. For more information, call 261-5787 or http://www.lafayette.lib.la.us/.

Fundraising dance for foundation to be July 28

A fundraiser to benefit the Children of Congo Foundation is set for July 28.

Alicia Neto, a Lafayette High School student, is hosting a "Back in Time" black and white dance for high school age students from 8-11 p.m. July 28 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Blvd., Lafayette. Admission is $7. Black and white party dress is preferred.

Proceeds go to the Children of Congo Foundation founded by Pauline Neto, a French Immersion teacher at Paul Breaux Middle School.

Pauline Neto, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, fled in 1989 for political reasons. She returns to the Congo for four months starting in August to instruct teachers, put a roof on the school and provide tuition for needy students.

Monetary donations can be sent to Children of Congo Foundation, Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Blvd., Lafayette, LA 70503, or call 989-6400.
